Metocean Data App

The Metocean Data App turns long-term hindcast and reanalysis time series into clear, configurable and exportable metocean statistics — without manual post-processing. You select a location, choose the variables and datasets you need, configure the analysis, and generate plots, roses, tables and downloadable outputs directly in the browser.

The app is at metocean-data.app.oceanum.io and is signed in with your Oceanum.io account.

These pages are a hands-on tutorial. By the end you will have built a complete analysis at a site of your choosing and exported the results.

The app is designed for professionals who work with historical ocean and atmospheric data and need fast, reliable and repeatable statistics for engineering, planning, operational or environmental assessments — coastal and offshore engineers, metocean consultants, port and marine operators, renewable energy developers, aquaculture and environmental professionals, and researchers.

The app reads curated, validated datasets straight from the Oceanum Datamesh — there is nothing to download or pre-process. You build an analysis by working down the steps in the left-hand sidebar:

  1. Choose a location on the interactive map.
  2. Analyse waves — pick a wave dataset and configure the statistics.
  3. Add wind, currents and temperature — repeat for any other variables you need.
  4. Review the results as roses, monthly plots and statistical tables.
  5. Run a workability analysis to find windows that meet your operational criteria.
  6. Export the outputs as a PDF report, CSV tables or downloadable time series.

Each step in the sidebar shows a green tick once it is complete, so you can move back and forth and re-run any part of the analysis.

For the datasets and variables behind each step, see Data sources and variables.
